Affordable Classics

Index of collectible cars priced under $30k

The Affordable Classics Index was the only one of Hagerty’s seven primary indices to post any growth this past period, and it is currently perched at an all-time high. It is also the only index to show positive movement over the past 12 months, and one of only three indices sitting higher than it was five years ago. While most of the index’s component cars tracked steady, the 1967 Volkswagen Beetle posted its third sizable increase in a row at 16 percent and the 1967 Karmann Ghia posted a more modest but still significant 4 percent.

Much of the heat in the market at the moment is for vintage trucks and SUVs as well as newer performance cars from Germany and Japan. While these vehicles appeal to different tastes, most of them are at the lower end of the price spectrum, so all the activity in this space has made Affordable Classics the brightest spot in the collector car market at the moment.
