<p><ul><li>The Hagerty Market Rating <strong>starts off 2019 with a small decrease, and is down from this time last year</strong>, but by less than half a point to 64.46.</li><li>Despite the overall decrease in the rating, both the <strong>auction and private markets are showing strength</strong> with a 1.5% increase in the number of cars selling at auction over last month and a 1% increase in the average sale price on the private market.</li><li><strong>Owner optimism had been mixed for much of 2018, but for January 2019 it is slightly down</strong>. Fewer owners of both mainstream and of high-end vehicles expressed the belief that values are rising in January.</li><li><strong>Optimism from market experts is also down</strong> for the second month in a row.</li><li>The Kissimmee and Arizona auctions, two of the largest events of the year, are not factored into the January Hagerty Market Rating. They will be for February's update.</li></ul></p>
