A 1947 Ford V-8 DeLuxe Wagon and a 2003 prediction

1947 Ford V-8 DeLuxe station wagon
S/N 799A1462043
Pearl white metallic and wood with brown vinyl interior. 239 c.i. V-8. Restoration finished in 1998, aging nicely. Excellent wood. Engine bay not detailed. A handsome driver, not a show car.

SOLD FOR $71,300 by Bonhams and Butterfield at their Carmel Valley, CA, auction on August 15, 2003.

Twenty years ago, you couldn’t give away woodies. Most were worn-out project cars, and the costs of restoring one properly, including the wood, are simply astronomical. But as their value has climbed, so have the number of cars being resurrected. This was a strong price for a non-trophy-condition wagon.

12-month prediction: Woodie prices have flattened out in the past two years. We might see a little more appreciation, but by and large the price today is the price you’ll see in a year.
