2003 Pebble Beach Concours Weekend Marks Inauguration of Hagerty Non-Profit Fund Benefiting the Hobby

Traverse City, Mich. (Tuesday, August 12, 2003) - Hagerty Insurance, the largest, fastest-growing specialty insurance program for collector cars, will play a prominent role in the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d‘Elegance weekend, August 14-17, 2003. As part of the festivities, the company will announce the details of its newly established Hagerty Fund for Historic Vehicle Preservation and Education, designed to promote the preservation and growth of the collector car hobby through automotive educational scholarships, automotive museum support and collector car safety programs.

Additionally, the Hagerty Protection Network (HPN) will continue the on-site roadside program it launched at last year’s Concours, offering its 24-hour, seven day a week, collector car flatbed towing services to all of the participants of the annual Pebble Beach Tour. More than 90 classic vehicles are expected to participate in the 2003 Tour on the 17-Mile Drive through the Carmel Valley on Thursday, August 14. Hagerty also will extend free HPN services to all Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance participants throughout the classic car weekend.

Hagerty Insurance also will host a hospitality suite, the Hagerty Lounge, and two customer service booths at the Monterey Sports and Classic Car Auction conducted by RM Auctions on Friday and Saturday evenings, August 15-16, at the Doubletree Hotel in Monterey at Fisherman’s Wharf. As part of its on-going sponsorship of the Monterey auction, Hagerty representatives will be on hand to provide free insurance quotes and immediate coverage on auction purchases.

Finally, for the fifth consecutive year, Hagerty Insurance president McKeel Hagerty has been invited to judge the Federation Internationale des Vehicles Anciens (FIVA) class at the Pebble Beach Concours. FIVA is a worldwide non-profit organization, based in Paris, dedicated to the documentation, preservation and restoration of historic vehicles. The class traditionally honors the best original condition, best-preserved car on the field.

“We are pleased to embrace our ever-increasing role at what is considered the most prestigious collector car weekend anywhere in the world,” says McKeel Hagerty. “Through our participation at events like Pebble Beach and through the initiation of programs like our Hagerty Protection Network and the new Hagerty Fund, we hope to not only celebrate the past but ensure the future of the collector car hobby.”
