Hagerty Invites Public to Select Finalists of Youth Model Building Contest and Designers Contest

Traverse City, Mich. (July 10, 2009) – Hagerty Insurance, the nation’s leading provider of collector car insurance, is inviting the public to vote for their favorite submissions from the second annual Youth Model Building Contest and the first ever Youth Designers Contest until July 20, 2009.

“As one of Hagerty’s most important initiatives, we’re pleased with the level of participation in our second annual Model Building Contest and our first ever Designers Contest,” said McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty Insurance. “Now the fate of each model and design lies in the publics’ hands – so we encourage our clients, friends, family and anyone who visits our site to vote for your favorite model and favorite design.”

The Model Building Contest has received models submitted by car clubs around the country since the contest launched in April. Each club mentored youth ages 8 to 12 in building car models, and then selected a first place winner. The models that took first place were mailed to Hagerty, photographed professionally and will be posted online at Hagerty.com/model.

The first annual Designers Contest invited teenagers ages 13 to 17 to design their own modern interpretation of a 1959 Cadillac, in honor of the iconic car’s 50th anniversary. Submissions will be posted online at Hagerty.com/design.

Voting for both contests opened at midnight on July 6, 2009 and will close at midnight on July 20, 2009. Any person may vote for his or her favorite model and design based upon provided criteria, such as workmanship, effort, realism, complexity and accuracy. The three models and the three designs with the largest numbers of votes will each win an expense-paid trip from Hagerty to attend the Concours d’Elegance located in Pebble Beach, Calif. from August 12 to August 16, 2009 for final judging at Hagerty’s Annual Party held at The Lodge at Pebble Beach.

Launched under Hagerty’s new youth initiative Operation Ignite!, these programs are designed to involve young people in the collector vehicle hobby and ignite a passion for collector cars in the next generation of enthusiasts. Additional programs under Operation Ignite! include the Youth Judging Program and the turnkey Kid Friendly Car Show Kit.
