Matthew Ferino, Pennsylvania
I’m a Regional Territory Manager here at Hagerty, helping to provide drivers with classic car insurance in Pennsylvania. I have long been obsessed with cars and motors. It started with my impeccably-curated childhood matchbox collection and continued into my teenage years, which were spent working weekends at my father’s garage. There I learned the basics of an oil change, brake job and tune up. In 2010, I was fortunate enough to purchase my first collector car, a 1981 Porsche 911SC, which I began racing with the Porsche Club of America a few years ago; it will remain as the only permanent fixture in my collection. Last year marked another milestone, when I was given the remarkable opportunity to join the Hagerty Family. It has allowed me the unique ability to create a career combining my passion for cars and this amazing hobby with a truly world class organization!
What is unique about the hobby in your territory?
Though not exclusive to my territory, what I find unique about the hobby is the diversity -- particularly the people you meet. I have come across people with micro cars, military vehicles (including tanks, in one instance), vintage Ferrari’s and everything in between. Like me, everyone has a story and I truly enjoy hearing about how people got into the hobby along with what they collect and why.
Why Hagerty? What excites you about what we do?
As a classic car owner and longtime Hagerty client, the thing that excites me the most is the organization’s commitment to the hobby. It is extremely important to me that automobile’s history be preserved and there continue to be stewards of these classics for generations to come. Hagerty has built a community and support structure through various programs like the HVA and Youth Judging that will help ensure that future.
Favorite car event of the year
Being a Porsche enthusiast and collector, my favorite event of the year is the Porsche Club of America Swap meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This year will mark the 40th anniversary of the event, which attracts 650 vendors, 1000 Porsches and over 6,000 enthusiasts from around the world. If you can’t find your missing Porsche part here, it doesn’t exist!
