Mike Maslowski, Illinois
I’m a Regional Territory Manager here at Hagerty, helping to provide drivers with classic car insurance in Illinois. Have you ever caught yourself daydreaming about turning your passion into a career? I used to do that until I started working at Hagerty. Growing up I think I spent more time in the garage, at car shows, going to cruise nights, and hunting for parts at swap meets then I did anywhere else. I joined my first car club at one month old, I bought my first classic car at age 7, and my first hot rod at 18. Then one day I saw a Hagerty employee at a car show and I said to myself that it would be an awesome career. It’s been a great year at Hagerty and I can honestly say I think the hardest part of making your passion a career is taking a day off.
What is unique about the hobby in your territory?
I think the diversity of the hobby is what sets Chicago apart from the rest of the country. We have every type of club you can imagine from Hot Rods to Datsuns to Ferraris. We have enough cruise nights during the summer that you could go to a cruise night every day of the week and never have to go to the same show twice. We have Concours to rat rod shows from highbrow to high octane and everything in between.
They could never have imagined it, those pioneers who invented the automobile, that it could possess us like this, in our imaginations and in our dreams. Dare say it, men love women. But even more than that. Men. Love. Cars."– Rush
Why Hagerty? What excites you about what we do?
It’s gratifying to see a client have one perception of insurance people and to see that perception change once they realize that, at Hagerty, we are car people who happen to work for the best insurance company on the planet. We “get it,” we share our clients’ passion and we genuinely love going to work.
Favorite car event of the year
I have too many to count. My favorite car event is the few times a year I get to work on one of the hot rod projects with my dad and my brother. I love hearing a 4½”grinder scream, the buzz of a tig welder and the smell of bondo. We have a lot of great car events and I like them all but if I had my choice I’d be in the garage where my passion for cars started, building the next project.
