    You have three options:

    2. File a claim online
    3. If your policy is through a local Aviva Elite broker, you can contact them to file the claim.

Note: Please don’t delay. There are conditions in the policy requiring timely filing of claims.

  • Will filing a claim affect my rates?

Policies are eligible for a no-claims discount after one year without claims, so filing a claim can affect your eligibility for the discount. Or, if your policy is receiving the no-claims discount, it may be removed upon renewal. However, policies are checked every renewal to see if they qualify.

  • Who will handle my claim?

Your damage claim will be handled by a specialty adjuster from a specialty claims office called Bay Mills. Bay Mills is operated by our underwriting company, Aviva Elite. Bay Mills adjusters have extensive experience in handling damage claims for classic and specialty cars.  Hagerty will work closely with Bay Mills staff to make sure your claim experience is even better than you might expect. And you can still contact Hagerty with any service-related questions or concerns.

*Aviva adjusters handle claims for third-party liability, accident benefits and uninsured/underinsured motorists.

  • How does the damage claim process work at Hagerty?

After a claim is filed, a specialty adjuster from Bay Mills is assigned and will contact you. Typically, this first call from your adjuster will happen on the same day the claim was filed.  See How Do I File a Claim.

In this call, your adjuster will discuss the loss and coverages, determine whether to assign an appraiser or ask for an estimate and photos and address any next steps that are needed to resolve the claim.

The next steps could be as easy as getting the estimate and photos or appraiser report.

At this time, your adjuster would be able to review the information, confirm coverage and make any applicable payments for your vehicle’s damages.

  • What is the difference between an adjuster and the independent appraiser who might see my car?

Bay Mills adjusters are licensed and trained to ensure proficiency in handling specialty damage claims for collectible vehicles. They work for the company and operate out of the Aviva Specialty office called Bay Mills in Beaverton, Ontario. An appraiser is an independent specialist who is out in the field acting as the eyes and ears for the in-house adjuster. Adjusters working on our claims have valuable relationships with independent appraisers extending across the country to help ensure that only the most knowledgeable and courteous appraisers are inspecting your vehicle.

  • What if I can’t find the replacement parts for my damaged vehicle?

Hagerty has an on-staff parts specialist whose primary responsibility is to track down difficult-to-find parts. We have deep resources that extend way beyond the typical internet search or publications. So if it’s out there, we can almost always locate it.

  • If I need a tow, is it covered as part of my claim?

It depends. If your vehicle only needs to be towed due to a mechanical or electrical breakdown, then this would not be covered. If you are enrolled in Hagerty Plus, our towing and roadside assistance program geared exclusively to collector vehicles, you can contact us at 866-922-6569 to arrange a tow. However, if your vehicle is non-drivable as a result of a covered loss (e.g. collision with another vehicle) then reasonable costs for a tow would be covered under your claim.

  • What should I do after an accident?

In any situation, take whatever reasonable steps necessary to avoid further damage to the vehicle.

    • If you have a collision on the roadway, don't discuss fault with the other driver. Simply get their personal info (name, address, phone number, insurance company and policy number), and their vehicle information (year, make, model, colour, and licence plate).
    • In many situations, it can be beneficial to call the police to the scene, especially if anyone in either car is injured or if the vehicles aren't drivable.
    • Notify Hagerty or your local Aviva Elite broker promptly to get the claims process started.

Note: Please refer to your policy for complete details of your duties after a loss.
